Site specific installation comprised of 112 VE prints, 10 plates on Fabrino, “Art of Sculpture” Exhibition, Quay Arts, Newport IOW, 2023
A split in time, a gap in the equilibrium: a rift. The viewer may feel to be on the inside of something looking out through the gap into the wider world, or peering introverted to their own self. The rift captures a moment in time, a split second of light filled crack; a schism in the personal continuum. The opening crevice of new space is taken from a memory and instantly forms a new one, different for each individual and each defined by its location and emotion. It is gap through which to glimpse different perspective to worlds seen and unseen.

This is the first installation piece forming of a body of work exploring cracks in memory. Creating personal rifts through which one can slip, creating a new moment in time or revisiting an old one with new eyes. Moments previously unseen revealed through the fissure. The site specific installation presents a memory crack in the Quay Arts building, following the stairs up to the first floor landing, across the ceiling and walls and into the main gallery where it divides a wall and falls into the floor.

The piece is deeply personal yet resonates with many – the memory rifts that surround us, each a ‘sliding doors’ moment with repercussions that can significantly alter the course of our lives.
Individual VE prints not used in the installation are available to buy as mounted works. Please message for details.
