“Rift: Ipley” was filmed suspended over Beaulieu River in the New Forest, near to where I grew up. The location is one that I have known throughout my life, from carefree childhood to considered adult.

I have been making my ‘Rifts’ for several years and each is suspended in a personally significant location. As the work can only be in place for a short period I have started to film and record the print installations, which in turn have become works in their own rights. The ‘Rift’ represents a split second in time, one that we might revisit or slip though once made. It captures and holds that exact moment in perpetuity.

This print was made for Ipley River, (a section Beaulieu River) and filmed over the course of a day before being dismantled – leaving nothing changed in the sensitive environment. The resulting work captures a moment in the long natural history of the location. The sensitivity of the New Forest at that instant is held in perpetuity – both within the paper and the recorded on digital film (see below for short version).

There is also an extended version of the film for exhibition, please email for details.
